Probably the best invention for cyclists. They make all the difference. But you know this, right? I’ve just bought myself a new pair. Not cheap but certainly not at the expensive end – didn’t realise you can spend £200+ on a pair! They fit snuggly – maybe too much but the cooler weather will tell. I have tried so many types over the years from really tight ones, lined ones and oversized with a thin liner pair inside. I am fortunate not to suffer from Raynaud’s syndrome, but if I do get cold thumbs, it can take them a couple of hours to work properly. Back to the reason I have bought a new pair; the ones I have used for the past 12 years are worn through and too many holes. I think I bought these in Germany – thought they looked good and weren’t that expensive. They have been brilliant – the fit was perfect, the protection and warmth too. But I cannot find them anywhere now. Shame. To be honest, I don’t particularly like wearing gloves, but they work (if you get the right pair) and they don’t just keep your hands warm, which for me, makes my body feel warm, they help your grip to the bars in the wet or sweaty conditions and offers some protection, – normally the first part of you to hit the ground. Oh, and if you go for aero type mitts, they can make you go faster! Until next time, #handlebars_haynes
